Thank you NRock, CD, and The Legend for packing out a fine trench. Saw no postholers today - everyone in snowshoes. Probably 6 as far a Bondcliff, 3 as far as W. Bond. No sign of traffic from Guyot. Trails are in great shape.
This was a hike I will not soon forget. First while driving in the snowstorm to LWP I skidded off a corner up onto a frozen snowbank and then back down and kept going. All systems functioning post stunt. Second I caught up to the hiker in front of me at the Hillary Step. We summitted Bondcliif together and immediately got blown off our feet. We struggled up, took maybe one step only to be flattened again. Now it was not possible to even crouch let alone walk. Crawled/slithered across the summit and down a ways on the East side where it was possible to walk with great care between gusts. Wind direction was such that by the time we were ascending Bond the wind was at our backs and manageable. Fortunately the wind had slackened by the return trip. |
