|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
None |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No blowdown issues, just a few easy step-unders on Lowe's Path. The major issue is drainage, as large amounts of water seem to be running mostly on the trail, causing the buildup of ice that we saw. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw none, would be tough for dogs with long sections rock-hopping in the wind and cold above treeline, both on Lowe's Path and the 0.2 section of trail from the jct with Lowe's Path and Israel Ridge Trail to the summit of Adams. |

| Comments: |
A relatively warm, slightly windy day above treeline with winds less than 20 mph above treeline in the morning, ramping up to gusts of about 30 in the late afternoon and clouds rolling in. A 1-mile section of Lowe's Path starting at the FPA sign just north of Log Cabin heading south is very steep and has intermittent glare blue and crunchy ice sometimes hidden underneath packed or powdery snow. Microspikes were sufficient going up, combined with a little bit of bushwhacking for less confident folks. Going down, crampons were mandatory.
Above treeline in flat areas, glare blue ice hid underneath snow patches but was largely avoidable and microspikes were great on these sections as well as for rock-hopping the cone. Rocks were not covered in snow, just coated with feathery rime ice, and generally not slippery. Good traction proved really important today! Overall an amazing day to be on the higher peaks. |
