The Livermore trail is groomed for cross-country skiers much of the way to the Tripyramiid Loop. Traction isn't even required on this stretch. We did the loop counter-clockwise. Snowshoes are recommended from Livermore Trail, up the South Slide, over South Tripyramid and on to Middle Tripyramid. Conditions went from 8-inches of soft snow to ice coated rocks. Everything was easily negotiated with snowshoes, although a pair of hikers were hiking in the opposite direction in microspikes with a lot of postholing. It looked like we were the first on that section of trail in a week. The trail from South to Middle Tripyramid hadn't been tracked at all, and with no blazes on the trees, and a bazillion moose tracks, we just headed in the general direction of the peak. The North Slide also hadn't been tracked recently, except for older snowshoe tracks. We butt sledded all the way down the Slide. The rest of the Tripyramid trail out was well tracked and only required light traction. |
