Started up just before noon with full parking lot. Snowshoes from the lot. Ran across 20 or so people total, six of whom weren't wearing snowshoes. I have to say, I'm not sure why this seems like a good idea. I don't dig sinking up to my knees every time I take a step. I digress. Well packed from lot to base of chimney. Apparently every other person turned around at the chimney, because Piper and I found untouched drifts and deep snow at the top. Broke across the remainder of the ridge to Osceola and returned the same way. The Chimney bypass was fine in snowshoes and mittens. Trail was a complete disaster from the Chimney back to Greeley--super choppy and ankle breaker-y. Thanks to everyone who elected to wear snowshoes the Saturday after a week during which two feet of snow fell. Wise choice. |
