Great day for a hike, though about 1.05 miles in the hike got a little bit scary with thick ice hidden under only a few inches of snow. The trail itself is pretty flat here but the incline from the hill is rather steep making the pass more than dicey. Once past this (lasts a quarter mile or so but sure feels longer) the rest of the hike is easy.
Thank you to those came first and broke out the trail for us, much appreciated.
Wore hillsounds from car to summit and back again. Snowshoes wouldn't have been a bad idea but quite honestly they weren't necessary. Monorail is definitely developing, I can tell because any steps taken off the beaten path resulted in a posthole.
Half of Zealand Rd has been packed by snowmobilers (thank you) but they aren't allowed down certain corridors like the one leading to the trailhead but it sure was nice walking where they have driven.
Forest Rangers put up a new sign at the trailhead, looks great! Though I will point out that the base sign says "summit in 2.2 miles" and the summit sign says "Zealand Rd 2.3 miles". Oh well! |
