a most excellent day for Isolation. wore snowshoes RT. Rocky Branch tr from the lot to the start of the EH bw, is kinda a hard lumpy mess...slow going on the descent in snowshoes. no sign of anyone's previous track. wind, drifts, and fresh snow obliterated any trough that might have been there. we took our own bearing for the EH bw which basically followed the 3200 contour line and popped out a little higher up on isolation. from here we crossed isolation back into the woods and down and over the river for another bw nearly straight up along the feeder brook to pop out on davis path in the col just below the summit. this bw was thru open woods and more birch glades, but the snow got deeper as we ascended. sunk in thigh-to-waist in some spots and while it shaved off a 1.5m, we did not descend this way, but rather stuck to the trails which were completely drifted over up to 18inches in spots. again, no sign of anyone being there recently and i imagine that our tracks will be quickly wiped out due to new snow/wind. didn't see anyone else all day, thereby lending to that feeling of isolation on Isolation. :) |
