Terrific day to skin up Wildcat. I carried microspikes for the climb up the ridge to the summit - glad I had them but I saw a couple of girls climbing with regular ski boots. Amazing views, as always.
NOTE: I followed the prescribed uphill route - Straycat to Polecat.... Straycat is NOT open, so, the cover is very thin with a dusting of snow on a lot of ice. At the upper junction with Polecat, I found it almost impossible to get up the manmade snow berm next to the snow guns. Ski Patrol asked me if I needed help,,, how embarrassing - "NO - THIS IS JUST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET UP ON SKIS/SKINS!!!!!" I said. I had to take off my splitboard/skis to climb it. I should have done what other skinners were doing and just go up Polecat from the base!!!! |
