Comments
Comments: Just a dusting of snow at the bottom. 1/2 mile up Rocky Branch it became quite slick. Now the trail is rocks, roots and ice. After a couple of miles, the snow gets deeper and the trail is much nicer. Some running water but avoidable. I chose the thickest 100 yards to start the bushwhack but after the first glade, it was much better. I wore snowshoes across and back. I followed moose prints, wandered a bit and tried to avoid pushing thru branches. I dropped down just before the two brook crossings close together by a campsite. I crossed the first, couldn't cross the second and backtracked. There is a nice side path to the right that avoids those crossings all together. At the final crossing, I wasn't willing to risk the ice and went 150 ft upstream and rock-hopped. Smooth sailing up to the junction. Thanks to Ned, Dave and Cody for some company as we hiked to the summit. Tried a different (higher) return on the bushwhack and after a few minutes, dropped down to my previous tracks.
