Spectacular views the entire time and a few groups - some with traction and others bare-booting - on the trail. Followed Old Bridle Path up to Mt. Lafayette over to Lincoln and back to avoid water crossings on Falling Waters Trail. 3rd party reported a couple of hikers fell in and aborted their trip (left parking lot when we were starting just before 9 am). Another hiker on the Ridge Trail reported he fell through with both feet but was able to continue. Old Bridle Path trail was solidly packed and light traction used all the way (MICROspikes and Hillsounds). Near the agonies (above and below) some post holes that can be avoided by staying in the center of the hard packed trail. From hut to summit some ice - traction is best but could possibly rock hop. From Lafayette to Lincoln some ice - traction probably best but can rock hop. Winds were stronger from the hut up and over Lafayette but no/low winds along most of the Ridge Trail over to Lincoln. Great day out with Gypsy Hiker - met up with Sunshine, Bobcat and Pemi on Mt. Lincoln. |
