Comments
Comments: Some of us put on snowshoes at the gate. Bare booting is doable on the road. Started with seven people summited with four. A real cold day for a bunch of seasoned hikers.
A snowmobile made a pass down the road which eased the effort to the trailhead.
Trail from there was not broken since recent storms. About 4 inches of powder with a breakable crust under. snow conditions deepen in elevation gain with a trace of old track beneath the powder. From the switchbacks and beyond, No trace of previous travel with trail breaking of powder and crust around a foot. From junction to summit junction was knee high snow breaking. Windy and cold on the summit where didn't linger long.
Great snow travel down our freshly broken trail. Met one skier coming up on our descent. He quickly passed us on his way down. Kept hoping some young people would help us break trail. Cold day out on the trails. Nice packed out trail now. Still soft on the base so barebooters be aware. Bring your snowshoes.
