Big thank you to all the trail breakers, Liberty Spring was fully broken and a JOY to hike, comparatively. Franconia Ridge between Mt Liberty and Haystack was a hellscape of blow downs, deadfall, 4+ foot drifts... I managed to break trail about half the way when I came to the part of the FRT that opens up and allows you to see Little Haystack in the background. The foreground was nothing but more deadfall and blowdowns. I already wrecked both my poles, and 2 of my 3 dogs were miserable and freezing, watching me fall chest deep in drift traps built up over the branch of deadfall. I gave up and turned around. I blame it on the dogs... |
