Climbing up the ski trail without traction was surprisingly tricky in a few spots. Took me a little by surprise but kept on truckin' without spikes. At the top of Wildcat D we put our spikes on. They were a must at that point. The trail was quite icy in many spots at the start. Some areas were quite tricky and made me a bit nervous as we tied to figure our way down the ice. I was happy we by passed the southern end of Wildcat Ridge. A couple of inches from the night before, covering the ice, made it a little more tricky but spikes were good. Coming down from Wildcat A was still icy but much better than the first part of the trial. Once we were on Nineteen Mile Brook trail it was smooth sailing. About a mile down we were able to take spikes off. Because of some of the slow going on ice, it took us about 7 hours to complete this 8.5 mile loop. I'd say I am a slow hiker to begin with but this took probably an extra hour than typical. |
