About 6-8 inches of fluffy powder snow at parking. We were able to bare boot up the road walking in tire tracks. After about 1.5 miles the tracks ended and there was one lonely set of X-C tracks. Snowshoes went on and stayed on for the rest of the day. We broke trail with the snow depth increasing as we gained elevation. It was difficult as there is no base and the snow is very fluffy, hiding all the rocks. No wind to speak of today, no sun either. We saw the hut caretaker leaving in the AM and saw the new caretaker skiing in as we got to the parking for Hale Brook trail. No cars in the winter lot all day. A lot more ski tracks on the road on the way out. Beautiful day ! |
