Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, December 9, 2010
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Were able to drive on the dirt road to the turn around circle where one starts the bushwhack on an old logging trail.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Ice - Blue, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We avoided the big crossing by using the bushwhack from the Stoney Brook Development. The other two crossings were covered by ice.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Only had trouble on the upper reaches of the Carter - Moriah trail with ice covered lean- ins. Eric with the bigger saw and I with the smaller one removed most of them. The harder part was to lift these heavy limbs off the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Our dogs Madison, Emma, and Toby found a way around some of the ice covered ledges and we gave them a hand on the last steep pitch up to the summit. They seemed to have a good time.

Comments
Comments: It was a great day to be out. Up high the snow depth was about 5 inches. Microspikes were sufficient to do the ledges on the Carter - Moriah trail. The views over to the Presis were dramatic as clouds and snow squalls moved around the summits. We both finished our December list and Moriah for each month. We had the trails and the mountain to ourselves.
