Comments
Comments: Headed up OBP with the plan to summit Lafayette and possibly do the ridge depending on time and weather. Trail in good shape - thank you to the crews that cleared out and cut all those fallen trees! Even the OBP shortcut was clear. Minor ice and 1-2 inches of snow on trail up to the hut. Slightly more snow and small drifts from hut to summit. Hiked all the way to summit without traction, then used microspikes on the way down for extra precaution.

We met three solo hikers coming down from the cone who all described the ridge as nasty with high winds. North-flowing winds ramped up as we got to the last half mile. Rime ice particles on the cone became airborne - a bit like being sandblasted. Reached the top and verified that doing the ridge would mean walking headlong into the wind - decided that didn't sound like much fun, so we had a summit snack and headed back down. Great views and sunshine despite the howling wind - good day above treeline.
