Comments
Comments: Light snow an inch or 2 right from the parking lot. An icy spot here and there along Hancock Notch Trail. Crossings were okay stepping on icy rocks or stones just under water. Cedar Brook Trail had a bit more snow to it. The sidehill brook crossing was well frozen over. We chose to ascend via South based on earlier reports and this proved the wize way to go. While I put on crampons at around 3500 feet others stayed with the spikes with careful foot placement. A couple of inches of fresh snow on some hard blue ice. We were delighted to find 6 inches or so of fresh powder cross the ridge with some stretches of deeper drifts. Winter wonderland with all the trees coated with snow..Descent via North had much less ice and was not bad going. Beautiful day out with moderate temps and despite the forecast..NO WIND...
