Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The lower crossing on Carter Dome Tr was a little tricky due to glazed rocks. The upper crossing was much easier.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Many blowdowns starting after the 6th switchback on Carter Dome Tr. There were several more around Zeta Pass and many many more on the way to South Carter. Even the tree that used to have the stick sign at the summit has been blown over. I removed many branches along the way but lots more still remain as well as the larger tree trunks. Some you can go under or over but some make you go a short distance off trail. The upper portion of Carter Domed Tr from Zeta Pass to the summit only had two large trees down with only one requiring a short detour. Carter - Moriah Tr over Mt Hight was clear.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Marlie donned her newly sewn Winter 4K patch on her jacket today. We saw a few other dogs all doing well despite one having some trouble at the lower crossing on Carter Dome Tr. It was only a year old and was unsure of the icy fast moving water. Marlie was the same way at that age.

Comments
Comments: There was a dusting of snow at the start increasing to about an inch at higher elevation. Some ice bulges forming as well as some black ice. Not enough to put on 'spikes but worth bringing them along. I cleared as much as one person with an 8" saw could and still make it out before dark. I may have been the only one with a saw out of the 20 other people I met. Things are starting to freeze up making it harder to clear the downed trees that are touching the ground. 48/48 for November!
