Group of five from RGoH doing an out and back via Mt. Kinsman trail. There is a fair amount of ice on the trails now, so it would be pretty careless not to have traction at this point in the season. The first mile is essentially ice free with a slight dusting of snow. After the first water crossing, it gets slightly worse. It's possible to bare boot to the ridge, but some of us put on spikes about two miles in and kept them on until we got back to the junction with Bald Peak. Kinsman Ridge trail is a thin sheet of ice with about an inch or so of snow. All blowdowns have been cleared. First time I was on the summit of both peaks with no wind. Great start to the winter season. |
