Comments
Comments: Nice layer of snow on the Ammo that made the climb quicker, and easier compared to 4 days earlier and before the snow. I opted for no traction until the Gem pool. The ice was soft and I had good purchase with my traction; and with all the great hand and foot holds the Ammo has to offer we didn't have any issue. I thought the conditions were very good for shoulder season. Once up above 3500 feet the ice was much harder so we use care. Traction was off after Monroe summit and back on about a miles before Pierce summit and the rest of the day. There was a nice 4+ inches of snow that was great to walk on along the ridge. The drifts were roughly 8 to 18 inches here at there - easy to walk through. Looks like lots of work was done before the Mizpah Hut - Huge thank you to the crew that put the time and effort into clearing that messy section! Less traffic between Pierce and Jackson - and it was another beautiful, sunny, blue bird day, with low winds. Nice day out with Billy and Al and it was great to see Waumbek and chat on the trail for a few minutes.
