| Water Crossing Notes: |
Had to wade both Franconia Brook and Lincoln Brook; knee deep on my 5' 11" companion but current wasn't too bad. One hiker carried his dog across on his shoulders. Rock hopped remaining crossings. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trees down at various places but no problem getting around, under or over. |

3 dogs, all friendly. Great hike for dogs up to the Owls Head trail. Not sure I'd take my dog to owls head due to loose footing. |

Gorgeous day with great views of the franconia ridge and the bonds with majority of leaves down. Saw 13 folks going to Owls Head; of these due to water, majority chose to bushwhack to avoid water crossings. At least 3 of the 5 of us who water crossed decided to bushwhack back to avoid the two major water crossings. Even if you avoid the water crossings, enough water/mud on the rest of the trail, brook crossings and up Owls Head to make you want dry socks at the end. Two cairns marking owls head path present and only one cairn marking the summit. Chose to bushwhack back paralleling the brook; ended up linking up with Franconia Falls Trail which had some nice views. Cant imagine what it looks like in the spring runoff. 17.5 miles RT overall. |
