Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We spotted at a car at the northern ST trailhead the night before and started our hike from the southern end. Ours were the only cars at both trailheads the entire time.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The only big crossing of note was Wild River. While the overall water level was very low, it was not possible to cross right where the trail is without wading. We went downstream a few hundred yards where it was an easy rock hop. No issues with all other minor crossings.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Numerous stepovers along the lower ST within the wilderness boundary, which is to be expected. Some recent evidence of clearing. KT was in great shape. Upper section of ST was very brushy with hobblebush and it needs some love. The logging road walk is grassy.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure.
Bugs
Bugs: Nope.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: A fantastic traverse of the Shelburne Trail, with an out and back to Shelburne Moriah. Beautiful weather and trails for this trip. ST is really pretty from the south, with easy grades all the way up to the col. KT is a beautiful but more rugged walk, with a few knobs to climb over. One offers 360 views with a wide vista over Wild River Valley. Gorgeous on the ledges just below the SM summit, we stopped and hung out here for a while. Very quiet with just a slight breeze. Descent via the northern leg of ST is also mostly easy grades. The logging road walk at the end is somewhat boring, but travel is quick. A wonderful day out and this southern approach to Shelburne Moriah is a real delight. We saw one person all day, and that was an AT thru-hiker who had accidentally continued along KT. Congrats to CW for #49 of her 52WAV!
