Crawford Path had an inch or so of fresh snow down below to 3-4 inches by the Pierce Junction. Isolated sections of blue ice..microspikes were fine. 25 degrees, 20 mph winds on Pierce..seemed moderate enough so we headed to Eisenhower. Much deep snow in places along the ridge with frequent knee high drifts interspersed with lighter amounts.. We were the first ones through so picked our way a bit at times. Some blue ice through here had me put on mini cramps though microspikes were adequate. Windy along the ridge 30 mph..with some gusts. Took advantage of sheltered areas for breaks and soon found our way to the Loop Jct where another group passed and broke out trail rest of the way. Some deeper snow in the lee of the summit but packed out now. We had considered going down Edmunds but it was dark and windy that way so we backtracked to Pierce. temp of 20..30 mph winds at the peak with some views between the clouds and blowing snow..great day out |
