| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All crossings were rock hoppable |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The ascent up Willey has significant erosion. Several of the logs placed in the ground to help stabilize the trail have been displaced. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
We saw one small dog with his owner. He was small enough that his owner could have carried him up the ladders if needed. (Though the dog just ran up the leg of each one.) We saw a second dog descending Willey with her owners. Owners said she was 8 and the trail was proving to be too steep for her. They hadn't yet made it to the ladders. |

| Bugs: |
Some black flies. No mosquitoes yesterday. |

| Comments: |
This range is raw and steep, especially the ascent up Willey. It reminded me a bit of the Wildcats. Despite the torrential rains on Saturday, water crossings were fine by Monday morning. The trail is very muddy for much of the way, but posed no real issues. There is a water fall about 1/2 way along the Avalon Trail that is running beautifully right now and is a great spot for cooling off. One of us took a dip! We completed the traverse in 6 hrs, 55 minutes, including breaks. |
