Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We were there early, plenty of space in that nice lot.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One at the very beginning. At this present level, it's an easy rock hop.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Not one blow down! Signage good. Blazes above treeline are starting to fade (to be expected with all that exposure). Thanks for the "view" sign as you get close to treeline; Prema has a good eye for herd paths, but others may have missed this nice view if it weren't for that little sign. Thanks, maintainers.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a few, all friendly and well-behaved. Make sure you have enough water and watch them on those ledges. Small dogs may need a boost.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies and mosquitoes which were kept at by by Ben's and the breezes up top. Many dispersed after the little cloud burst on the way down.

Comments
Comments: We had the honor of meeting the Forest Service's volunteers. The folks who set up in the parking lot and offer friendly suggestions to those about to hike. I know they do this for Franconia, did not know they did it here, too. Thank you for your service! If only I were retired......

We did this trail at least a decade ago. Interesting to see the changes - trees have grown taller, so that a few of the scenic spots on the way up are restricted. Bridge gone, as well. It's also interesting to see how your perception of how difficult something is changes over the years.

This was our back-up, we were going to make a loop of Caps Ridge/Castles/ Link (Mt. Jefferson), but I was leery of afternoon storms. We also had a few portions of this rail we needed for redlining. We took the falls loop on the way up and spent some time there. Later on, we took the cut-off, which led across a ledge of beautiful views. We ended up at the Sisters and went on toward
chosorua. perfect day for it - sunny, clear, pleasant breeze.
The rain came on the way down; washed the bugs away!
