Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, June 25, 2017
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Jefferson Notch Rd. now open. There are several "softball sized" rocks after the grading; a couple which hammered the bottom of my car. I kicked off all those on the lower half when walking back to car. Also a large tree which will probably fall into road soon according to local who travels this road daily.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All bridged or minor on this loop.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Hiker I talked with said Mike & Monica were heading up for maintenance on Caps Ridge Tr. in a few days. Thank you. As of Sunday morning no saws needed. Only thing I could see was possible brushing on lower section. First couple planks nearing their ends. Edmands Path has 2 out of 3 broken planks on the lowest brook crossing making for a narrow crossing.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Caps would be tough for many dogs. Plentiful water once south of Washington.
Bugs
Bugs: Mosquitoes in Caps lot. Never seen so many. Bee like insects on Monroe. Black flies nasty at times. They were coming out on Edmands once the rain stopped.

Comments
Comments: Headed over to hike Isolation but switched to the Pressies when all was blue sky on the drive over. Very pleased I did. Made use of the above tree line weather as rain held off until on the way down Edmands Path. All trails in good shape but hard to comment on Edmands Path as the downpours made it a brook. Nice running into the same hikers for a third time in last two months. Thanks to Cog employee for ride over last couple miles. Downpour with strong wind on I93 once in Vt. causing cars to pull off; so may have been some worse weather heading into NH.
