 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking today at the Gale River trailhead. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

 | Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The crossing of Garfield Brook on the Gale River Trail was easy on rocks as the water level was low. The crossing can be tricky with higher water levels. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No obstructions on the trails. The water diversion ditches were cleaned out on the Gale River Trail. A new rock water bar was installed today as I met the trail maintainer for the Gale River Trail. One log bridge is damaged but can be used with care. This bridge is expected to be replaced this year. There may be more work on the relocated section of the Gale River Trail to remedy muddy spots. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Met two nice dogs today. Unfortunately I ran in to six unruly pugs on the Garfield Ridge Trail. I was charged by the dogs and bitten in the hand by one of the dogs. The owners were not controlling the dogs. I left with a bloody hand which was attended to at the Galehead Hut. This was my worst dog encounter in over forty years of hiking. These dogs shouldn't be on the trail. I hope the owners don't bring them on the trail again. |

 | Bugs: |
The bugs were better than last week. Some black flies but not too bad. |

 | Comments: |
Saw AT hikers, Pemi Loopers, and many day hikers. There was a father and daughter from Michigan who were hiking a multi-day Pemi Loop trip. Met many of the hut croo. Nice views from South and North Twin. |
