Bridge is out over Cascade Brook. Signs are posted near Lonesome Lake Hut advising hikers to consider an alternative route. I descended to Lafayette Campground, then turned south on the paved bike path to return to my car at Lincoln Hiker Parking. I met a hiker who forded Cascade Brook. He described it as "treacherous." |

| Comments: |
This was a perfect spring day for a hike between Kinsman Notch and Liberty Springs. After the ascent of Mt. Wolf, I was greeted with miles of standing water/mud on the trail. Continuing onward revealed a lovely walk next to the cascades, followed by a scramble up to South Kinsman. The trail maintenance on the north side of North Kinsman is excellent, with both wood/rock steps and notches chiseled into the slides for footing. The view of Lonesome Lake is outstanding, and it's worth spending time near the hut to enjoy the beauty. At the north end of the lake, warnings about the Cascade Brook crossing are posted. If completing this section as a shuttle hike, I would suggest leaving a car/dropping off at Lafayette rather than at Liberty Springs to avoid three mile (or so) walk back to vehicle. |
