Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: 3 blowdowns. I got the two smaller ones to be simple walk overs, but the larger double stem remains a step up and on to get over. No big deal but it would be nice to get it cleared. This trail is not well marked above Cornice, with old paint and at times small cairns and boulders not always obviously boot worn. It isn't a problem in summer due to the open country, but I sometimes space out and realized today my hike up Caps in the past usually goes south of the trail probably due to using Cornice for part of it. Caps Ridge sign at summit col is off the post and sitting at its base.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Pretty easy day for the mighty tough little dog. He found some water on the subsummit peak because the mild temps and black fur generated some heat. Saw only one other dog as we neared the trailhead.

Comments
Comments: It was like a late Spring hike, mild temps, little wind, a couple of short stretches of slippery snow/ice between rocks, a few blowdown, even found a 5' stretch of deep postholes and another 10' of monorail about a foot high. On the drive out the road was muddy. I didn't use the microspikes but the icy stretch on the descent required that the feet stay on the rocks. I recorded 54F at our subsummit snack stop, sheltered by it with the sun shining on it and us. I wanted to go over to see George or John on such a glorious day after the wintery hikes we've had, but Dr. Google told me I should take it easy on the ankle, so Tom was it. Met a fair number of groups on the way down, all very nice to visit with, but not the crowds I expected. What a nice day out.
