Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The good news is the road is open even though it is still reported as closed on the WMNF Road Status page. Sawyer River Road is in good shape with plenty of parking at the trailhead. It was full when I left.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Small Patches

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The Carrigain Brook is high enough where you can't rock hop it without water flowing over your boots. I didn't spend much time looking up and down stream, but I didn't see anything easier. My waterproof boots kept me dry during both crossings. Poles helped too.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are various small blow downs on the trail. The only one you have to crawl over is just before the summit.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw several today. No problems for them today although one was carried over the brook.
Bugs
Bugs: Not a problem today.

Comments
Comments: The first 1.7 miles of the trail has some mud and standing water on the trail, but not much. There is not a lot of snow on the trail. There is a small amount before the switchbacks, more on the switchbacks and snow on the trail between the ridge and the summit. Most of the snow can be avoided, but some you have to hike through. Some of it is just solid ice, but none of it was a problem. I was able to bare boot all day.
