Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings were manageable with a couple steps on slightly submerged rocks. I'm not sure if I've ever seen water in the sag between the split on the loop trail and the ascent of N Hancock but it was a full flowing brook today.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I took out a few blowdowns and cleared a couple waterbars along the Hancock Loop. Along the ridge it was brushy in spots but not bad. I noticed recent waterbar clearing on Hancock Notch Tr.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Easy hike for Marlie today. The warm temps were balanced out by the melting snow. Lots of sipping streams down low and slushy snow up high.
Bugs
Bugs: Not yet.

Comments
Comments: Another year, another birthday, another snowman made on my birthday. The snow started within a mile on Hancock Notch Tr but was spotty and only short sections of monorail. At the split on the Hancock Loop I put on microspikes for the ascent up to S ok uth Hancock. There was still 1 to 2 feet of snow/monorail most of the way up with little ice. The summit itself was bare but the snow returned as we crossed the ridge where I postholed a few times up to my crotch. There was less snow on the summit of North Hancock and the trail down was mostly wet with a few patches of snow. Only saw three other hikers out and overall it was a very enjoyable day.
