| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of space today and only one car at Great Gulf (toilets in this lot) and nice option if doing loop through Camp Dodge or if Nineteen Mile is full. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow - Spring Snow |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Crossings were rock hoppable on slightly submerged rocks or one could use logs; one on upper crossing is elevated and requires good balance. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Couple of blowdowns on lower half of Carter Dome Tr.. I managed to loosen one so that it is easier to straddle over. |

| Comments: |
Off and on monorail right from the start. Up to Zeta Pass I would've liked light traction 1/2 the time and bare boots the other 1/2. From Zeta up to Carter Dome trail was firm. Wet climb up today as first 1/4 mile had much melting from the trees. Either you stayed to left on trail and got wet or ventured right and cautiously worked the side hilling. Stayed firm enough (barely) to get by without snowshoes on way down to Zeta. Ventured a ways out towards South Carter but looked like potentially much hiking on little used trail with deep, softening snow. I wouldn't recommend going from Zeta Pass to North Carter Tr. without snowshoes unless hearing something different. Coming down from Zeta trail was breaking up; in my opinion snowshoes would've made it more difficult as spring has brought those nasty conditions when at times nothing works. |
