Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My poodle had a great time! I just want to put out there that she encountered a black lab walking down Washington.. they said hello, started playing, then the lab started to get violent. My poodle (half the other dogs size) was pinned to the ground and was getting attacked. I screamed & my dog was uncontrollably whimpering in pain. Thankfully she walked away and was able to finish the hike but I'm still hung up on the whole situation. It was easy to see there was blood on the snow and my dog was very shaken up, she didn't even want me petting her. She is such a gentle puppy and have been on hundreds of hikes without anything like this happening. All she usually does when she encounters other dogs is give them a quick sniff and move on. The owners of the other dog did apologize and stand there as I comforted my dog.. but they didn't say much about what happened and continued on their way. My dog ended up with a bite mark going through her ear, and bite marks on her neck which caused the whole area to swell up bad. I hate being negative because hiking has always been such a positive experience for me, but this has me pretty shaken up. So please everyone, be safe out there. If you know your dog has unfriendly behavior, don't risk it. I would never want what happened to my dog happen to someone else's. :(

Comments
Comments: The hike up Ammonoosuc was pretty easy-going. Packed snow. Put my spikes on about halfway when it started getting a bit steeper. The hike from Lake of the Clouds Hut up monroe was tricky. Spikes are a MUST as it was icy and very slippery. Due to the wind, we couldn't stay up there long. We hiked back down to the hut and up the Crawford path to Washington. Much easier than the hike up Monroe. Nice terrain, not too difficult. Still lots of snow but minimal postholing. No wind up Washington which was surprising. Walked back down to the parking lot following the cog railway. Our original plan was to do the Jewell trail but after getting some opinions from hikers at the summit, it seemed like a pretty difficult decent. The first half down along the cog railway was slippery slush and the bottom half was dry grass.
