Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Found the last spot at the overlook around 11 AM.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The brooks were lower than anticipated but I am sure they will grow higher by the minute. Don't expect snow bridges to be stable. On the hike out I just let my boots get wet, they were already drenched anyway.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One significant blowdown on the ridge. The high snow back led to the spruce traps being especially punishing on the ridge.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Oscar wanted booties for the steep descent. Ample water.
Bugs
Bugs: None yet!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: N/A

Comments
Comments: Corn snow and bluebird skies for most of the day. Get out there while these conditions last - the snow was stable for most of the day with minimal post-holing (and with a pack I was probably about 200+ lbs). Deep snow pack, brook crossings were quite manageable. The steeps on both North and South were soft corn snow with no blue ice visible. Ideal conditions for spring hiking, really.

I wore Katoolahs car to car; everyone I met carried snowshoes and never used them.
