| Dog-Related Notes: |
My 100 lb german shepherd Landry was overmatched at the awkward bottom ledge at first castle. Had hoped that snow ramp would be in place but that area is exposed to sun. Despite coaxing he would not receive boost and needed to abort hike. There are a number of places on this trail that very large dogs in particular will find difficult. My previous GSD and long time hiking partner Grete (recently passed and greatly missed) did complete this hike a number of times but she weighed about 75 lbs and was gifted with a very high determination. Trail dogs like my other present canine companion Micah should not have problems. For Micah, an Aussie, every hike-easy or hard-is like a walk in the park. |

| Comments: |
There is a couple of inches of powder over consolidated snow and ice. MIcrospikes were excellent on this posthole free lightly used trail. Snowdrifts at treelike. Kicking in steps was necessary in steeps that start at Pine Link junction. Turned around at only 9:30 am at first castle - with light wind and abundant sun despite cold. Great being on this trail again in winter after two years, despite missing window to summit before storm. |
