Perfect above tree line day. Wow!!! And the trails were in great shape. With the deep cold Valley Way was rock hard. I brought snowshoes thinking they might be necessary but spikes were the better option. Unlike so many other trails recently Valley Way did not have many portholes. When it warms up who know but today it was great. Pretty boney above treeline. We stayed in spikes but we also stayed on Gulfside and avoided some of the large no fall snow fields. There is some ice but spikes were fine. Same for Osgood..spikes were fine. Going down some of our party switched to crampons for the steep sections of Valley Way. The side hills were not bad. I stayed in spikes going down but crampons would have helped. |
