Comments
Comments: Thought I'd try this route as a change. Tripoli Rd was a pleasant two-mile walk to trailhead though I was told (nicely) by Waterville Valley employee to wear snowshoes as Tripoli Rd is officially a cross-country ski trail in winter. Once at trailhead, I switched out of snowshoes into microspikes as trail was frozen snow all the way to the summit. At about 3200ft I switched over to ten-point crampons because (a) I'd carried the bloody things and (b) insurance against slipping down the steep slope while traversing. Still pretty windy/cold at the top but the views from the summit made it all worth while (I kid - it's a wooded summit). I was glad of the crampons on the way down though I could have done without that two-mile return walk on Tripoli Rd.
