Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lot was plowed and in good shape. Was the second car parked in the lot at 8:30am. I believe only two other people took the Mt. Kinsman Trail that day.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable)
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One crossing about 2 miles in that requires some rock hopping. A few smaller crosses with snow bridges, but the bridges are weak - watch your footing.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail was clear of blowdowns
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Met two dogs who went up via Fishing Jimmy. Kudos to them!
Bugs
Bugs: N/A
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a pair of green socks halfway buried in the trail. We weren't sure if they belonged to people who were still heading up to the summit, so we left them on some fresh snow - where they would be more visible

Comments
Comments: Mt. Kinsman Trail was in relatively great shape. First time taking this approach to the Kinsmans and I highly recommend it. Very enjoyable winter route. The summits were in and of clouds, but the weather was good for the most part. The wind was a bit rough on KRT and on the summit of South, but otherwise conditions were manageable. Wore spikes the entire way - as did most of the people who came up via FJT. Definitely play it safe and bring snowshoes - the snow is getting soft again.
