 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Nice newer cairns along the SMT. A bit brushy near the summit of Straightback along the SMT and the BRT. Cleared one small leaner on the BRT. There is a large blowdown on the JVBPT about .3 miles above the SMT split that was too big for the saw I had with me. Easy enough to get around for now. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
No issues for dogs today. We did see some porcupine activity along the BRT. |

 | Comments: |
Nice cold, windy, bluebird morning for a loop up SMT to Straightback and then over to Major. Trails were generally hard packed with a few minor post holes here and there. Some minor drifting on the ledges along the SMT and nearing the summit of Mt Major on the BRT. Mt Major summit was mostly bare rock and ice. Snow pack is still pretty low in the woods, maybe 8-12 inches. We used spikes the whole trip but one could use snowshoes if wanted, not necessary. JVBPT between the BRT and SMT split had seen much less use and had rougher footing than all the other trails. |
