Comments
Comments: We immediately took FR602 until it ended at a clearcut at approx 1800' - southeast of the peak.
We then started our bw going north, through young hardwoods - staying somewhat on contour.
At approx 2050', NE of the peak, we turned west on a relatively steep grade through the hardwoods
which brought us to the ridge top.( As we later discovered, we turned just a few minutes too soon.)
We then turned SW through open or prickly woods, avoiding ledges, and eventually accessing the peak from the west.
The jar and its contents are in excellent condition.
On our way back, we did not want to descend by the steep section we had taken up. So we hiked a little further along the ridge top until we found an easy grade going east through mature hardwoods.
Observations:
beautiful day with cobalt blue winter sky
excellent surface conditions throughout the hike and bw
grades were excellent
woods were essentially wide open hardwoods, with a bit of prickly woods on the ridge.
We walked on top of potentially sprucy areas on the ridge, but the hard packed snow kept us on top.
