Gale River Road is either bootable or snowshoe-able.
The start of the Garfield Trail (the initial knoll) has sparse snow cover. Brook crossings were bridged and easy.
The rest of the trail had 2-4" of new powder on top of the well-trod base. Snowshoes preferable after 1st crossing. After ~2500 feet, the conifers showered us with attention.
Garfield Ridge Trail toward the campsite and Galehead did not appear to have been taken in at least a day but the track was visible.
Garfield Ridge Trail up to the summit of Garfield was prime snowshoe-televator terrain.
Cold day with light winds. Clear skies offered fantastic views! |
