The classic loop going counter-clockwise with a group of nine. All trails were well packed. The ridge is packed snow, ice and bare rock. We all carried snowshoes but spikes were sufficient round-trip. Snow pack was sticky but balling really wasn't an issue. Light drizzle started as we headed up FWT, and pretty much continued most of the day, making this a very wet hike. Visibility above treeline was minimal but navigation wasn't a problem. Zero views due to the ridge being in a cloud. Strong winds were knocking us around as we left Little Haystack, but seemed to subside a bit as we crossed the ridge. A wild, wet and windy day on the ridge! |
