Comments
Comments: Snowshoes Stayed on our packs all day...except for 5 minutes. Micro spikes were perfect for about 75% of the hike but crampons would have been much better on the really steep sections. Very little ice and it was all avoidable but the trail going up to East Peak is very steep in sections. Going up in micro spikes wasn't too bad but we could have flown up with crampons due to spikes on the toes. Coming down the steeps with just microspikes was much much trickier. Tried switching to my snowshoes coming down a steep section and that was treacherous!! My snowshoes are meant for climbing and have pretty aggressive spikes but they weren't holding at all (snow a little too soft?) so I quickly switched back to the Micro spikes. I had crampons in the car but none of my friends did so I stuck with my microspikes so that we would all be hiking at the same pace and I wouldn't go up something that they couldn't follow in micro spikes.
