Comments
Comments: The Starr King trail was sufficiently packed to use light traction to the pitch just below the Starr King summit, meaning that no damage was done to the trail as we walked (no post-holing). Beyond the Starr King Summit snowshoes are necessary due to greater snow depths and some light drifting. Beyond Waumbek the trail had not been broken out and we encountered nearly 3' of unpacked powder. Finding the yellow blazes of the trail was difficult due to the snow clinging to the trees however we managed to find ourselves on the trail more often than not. Anyone wishing to reach South Weeks until the next storm will find a very well packed trail, thanks to all my friends that helped with this fun hike today. Weather conditions were near perfect.
