Comments
Comments: 1/2 thru my winter 48! weather report was spot on...snow showers the whole day. two inches of fresh snow on my car in the afternoon. LL trail to the lake is very well packed. i started in snowshoes, but they really weren't needed. after the lake the trail gets real choppy. i switched to hillsound trail crampon PROs, where LL really starts to climb and the trail (IMO) is a mess. made much better time in the crampons and stayed in them for the rest of the day. no drifting on the ridge, so as long as i stayed in the trough, no post holing. saw two other hikers on my way up to Cannon, but on the way down, i lost count. (i forgot how much traffic there is around the huts.) most were in microspikes. saw one young'un in sneakers and spikes on his way to the Kinsmans and he wasn't even halfway in his ascent. also on the descent i went around lonesome lake which on the east side is a crapshoot of conditions. post holed once in a wet muddy spot nearly up to my knee.
