Some knucklehead postholed the entire ridge from Pierce to Jackson. I suspect it happened during the warm up yesterday or the day before. With temps dropped, it froze up good and created a hazard. tried to smooth it out wearing snowshoes, but it wasn't helping and I was felt like I was going to twist an ankle. Switched over to crampons early figuring I would need them on the cone. I'm not a snowshoe fascist by any means. If it's packed and frozen, by all means stick to your spikes, but please, folks, have a little courtesy for the people who come after you. Hopefully it will get broken out right after the storm tomorrow/Friday.
Jackson summit was ice sheets. Full crampons were very helpful. I wouldn't have wanted to do it in microspikes. |
