Comments
Comments: Bare booted from the lot and passed a hiker with a heavy pack on snowshoes after .5 miles on the trail. Put on my Hillsounds at 1.5 miles as it was slick under the fresh snow. Passed a pair of women that were also in light traction at 2 miles up the trail and was the first on the trail after the recent 3-6" of fresh snow. I used the Hillsounds all the way up the ledges and half way across the Rollins Trail. I wish I had brought crampons and ice ax for the ledges for the added sense of security. It was doable and not really dangerous, but heart racing for someone afraid of heights. There was lots of drifting on the Rollins Trail. Half way across Rollins, I encountered a couple on snowshoes coming the other way. I then stopped for a small lunch and put on my snowshoes for the remainder of Rollins. I also wore the snowshoes for the Passaconaway ascent and descent, stashing my bag before ascending. I then bare booted it all the way back to the car as Dicey's Mill was already in fine shape.
The full loop should be pretty well packed in with the various hikers on it today; it already was in great condition other than the 3-6" of recent snow and drifting along the ridge.
