| Dog-Related Notes: |
Baxter had fun but we got worn out breaking trail on the bushwhack. There was easily 2 feet of powder. Baxter never needed his coat and he didn't have any issues with snowballs on his paws. |

We thought we would try the Engine Hill Bushwhack, I know a few people have been there. We tried to find their tracks and I finally realized that I did find the trench of those that had come before but it was filled in with 1-2 feet of powder so you couldn't really walk in it. Sometimes we stayed on top but mostly I was breaking through to my knees. When we finally came back out on the trail we decided to call it a day and head back. We took the trail back (if we had gone that way in the first place we would have made it to the summit). The second little bushwhack is broken out nicely. It is further down the Rocky branch trail almost to the river. It also eliminates all the water crossings except the last one. There are stretches of deep snow, places with standing/running water and exposed rocks. I wore snowshoes most of the day but did put microspikes on for some of the way out. We are on vacation next week so Baxter and I may come out and give it another try. |
