Comments
Comments: Hit Pierce and Eisenhower for the first day of winter. Weather was nice away from the peaks but Eisenhower was in the clouds. We started in microspikes as Crawford Connector, Crawford Path and Webster Cliff Trail were well packed to the summit of Pierce. Crawford Path from Pierce to Eisenhower Loop was wind-packed and somewhat packed by M's snowshoes. We were able to continue on microspikes, being careful on the spots of blue ice. We started around Eisenhower on Crawford Path (last section for me to red-line it). It was crusty to begin with but once in the trees we started to break through and switched to snowshoes. We met a group of 4 that were on their second day of the Presi Traverse, so the section around Eisenhower is fairly packed now. We climbed Eisenhower from the north, the route was a mix of snow drifts and blue ice. I kept my snowshoes on as their crampons are aggressive and my microspikes dull. Plenty of sketchy ice heading up, but clear on top. We hiked out via Edmands Path which was not broken out and was a breakable crust over a foot+ of granular snow. It is somewhat broken out now, but the two of us were not enough to make it stable. 2 miles down Edmands Path and the snow depth had dropped to inches and we switched to bare boots. Clinton Road had a few inches of snow but recent tire tracks to follow. Great day in the mountains! Trip report to come with photos and videos once I get my crap together and start posting more.
