Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We parked at the end of Little River road, just past the Seven Dwarfs Motel. Area was plowed out well with room for +/- six cars. One other car arrived with two hikers planning trip up Hale Mountain. The gate was open on Haystack Road, but is offically closed and snow covered.

Surface Conditions: Wet/Slippery Rock, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We avoided crossing #1 & #2 by following path on NE side of Little River. There was a solid ice bridge at crossing #3, so no problems. Walked right across with snow shoes on.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Usual, expected low hanging trees with snow. Some small water crossings on lower parts of trail, easily avoided.

Comments
Comments: Followed one set of ski tracks down the herd path to start of North Twin Trail along with two other hikers. We all wore snow shoes for the entire hike. The two Mt Hale hikers shared some welcome advice on avoiding the first two river crossings. We followed the path along the NE side of Little River and crossed at the third crossing. As there were four of us on snowshoes, the path along the river was pretty well tamped down by the time we headed out. Before the 3rd river crossing, the Mt Hale hikers had diverged, so two of us snowshoed to the summit of North Twin. There was one set of snowshoe tracks on the trail, but it had snowed about 2-3 inches Wednesday night, so we semi broke trail all the way. The trail was covered in snow, for the most part with a few scrapes against exposed rocks. Closer to the summit there were waist deep drifts we powered through. Very cold (didn't have thermometer) with 40-50 mph winds at summit. Great views all around with blue skies and crystal clear views of the Mt Washington summit. We went a bit past our turn around time due to the drifts at the summit, so put on headlamps at the North Twin Trail sign at the end of Haystack road for the hike out the herd path to to Little River Road. Met the Hale Mt hikers in the parking lot, just arriving after their hike. Round trip for us was about 8 1/2 hours.
