Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Base Station road and Marshfield parking lot were plowed. No issues with parking, plenty of room.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow - Drifts, Snow - Wet/Sticky
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: You could rock hop all water crossings. A few of the smaller streams towards the top were filled with snow. You would get a boot full of water if you weren't paying attention and didn't notice the slushy crossing. You could just step over them otherwise.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Remember one blowdown that you could easily step over. You also had to duck under one brach across the trail about half way up -- more of a problem for tall people.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Several dogs having fun in the snow.

Comments
Comments: Bottom of the trail from the trailhead to the Gem pool had a light covering of snow (2"-4"). The steep section after the Gem pool was easy to climb with bare boots. Once you reached the ledge area and the alpine zone, the snow was deeper with about 6" on the trail and some drifts on the sides of the trail that were thigh high. Used microspikes in this section, but they were only moderately helpful in the loose snow. Had snowshoes, but didn't use them. They probably would have been useful, but it was too cold and windy to stop and put them on. Experienced whiteout conditions at the Lake of the Clouds hut that forced us to turn back before reaching Monroe.
